60GB PS3 Top Vent Airflow...Why?

My question is:
Why is there in / out airflow right next to each other? I can easily assume some air gets sucked back into the ps3. What did I do about it?
I snapped off the cover of the card reader bay and superglued it between the vents, standing upright, angling downwards towards the in air flow.
Kinda dorky, but it completely separates the in / out airflow.
It looks like this afterwards: (looking from the front of the ps3 while in vertical standing position)

Hey, I know it sounds so lame, but it works!
:D
**UPDATE**
I have noticed that the sides of my PS3 are cooler to the touch now, even after 5 or 6 hours of playing games. It feels just as cool as the 40GB PS3 feels.
I guess separating the airflow did do the trick!

I dont really see the point in this but there you go.. :D
UPDATE # 2
I have now determined that my PlayStation 3 is cool to the touch in all areas except for the fan exhaust and 2 small areas on both sides of the console.
Those warm spots still are barely perceptible as warm.
Overall, my PS3 doesn't even get as hot as my 32" LCD. :sarcastic:
